Welcome!

Dear Parents,

My name is Charles Kim, and I will be your child’s teacher this year.  I am excited about the upcoming school year, and I look forward to getting to know all of your children!

I have a few things to talk about to start this school year.  First, I have attached a class schedule to this letter so that you will know the basic layout of our day. On the schedule you will see our specials listed.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on Tuesday so that they will be able to participate in PE.  It would also be helpful if you would send a water bottle with your child.  A clear disposable water bottle seems to work best.

After Labor Day, the 2nd grade will start assigning homework and assessing behavior.  Each Monday, a homework schedule and behavior chart for the week will be sent home.  The materials for homework will not be provided until the day of the actual assignment.  I feel that it is important to do a little bit each day rather than try to do it all in one night.  Homework will consist of reading, spelling and math each night.  I feel that it is your responsibility as a parent to look over your child’s homework and have them correct visible mistakes.  In doing this, you are keeping them from reinforcing bad habits.  It also keeps you well informed of what we are doing in the classroom.  I ask that you initial the behavior portion of the homework sheet and their reading log each night.

Our snack time will be in the afternoon during our reading block. Please be sure to send a healthy snack that is not cookies or candy. I am always looking for healthy snack donations for students who do not bring a snack.

I will continue with the tradition of Tuesday folders which will be provided for your child.  Each Tuesday they will bring home a lot of important information for you to read along with our weekly class newsletter.  This newsletter will provide you with class information so please make sure to read over it each week.

Please feel free to e-mail me anytime as this is the best way to contact me.  I will always be available to you when it comes to the best interests of your child, and I believe that parent participation and communication are key components to student achievement and growth.

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day!
