Fifth Week of School

Hello York parents/guardians! 

             Welcome to the fifth week of the school year! Please be on the look out for your child’s interim report this Friday. We have completed “Reading Checks” and “Math Checks” for the beginning of the year and hopefully we will all see growth from here on out. If you have any questions about your child’s interim report please be sure to email me to set up a conference or I could just answer your questions through email. 

             Our next bravo bone party opportunity will be when the class reaches 50 bravo bones. We are currently at 38. Please help encouraging your child by asking them how many we have received each day. 

             Students are now encouraged to complete 3 math assignments and 3 reading assignments on Scootpad.com each week. Students will be able to work on them over the weekend as well. These assignments will only include objectives that we have covered in class. If you ever need help in signing in please do not hesitate to email me.

 

             Thank you for those of you who have donated healthy snacks recently! The snacks do go away fast and we are always in need, but I think we will be good for a week or two! The students are always so happy when they hear that someone has donated healthy snacks for those who aren’t able to bring one. 

              Thank you to those who have returned/purchased a Go, Play, Save coupon book! I think we have returned all of them!

Fourth Week of School

             Welcome to the fourth week of the school year! Next week our first interims will be sent home, so please be sure to check how your child has been doing this first 4 weeks! Your child has been doing great so far in following the school/classroom procedures, and we’ve successfully had our first bravo bone party (electronic game day) last Friday!. Our next bravo bone party opportunity will be when the class reaches 50 bravo bones. We are currently at 25. Please help encouraging your child by asking them how many we have received each day.

Students are now encouraged to complete 3 math assignments and 3 reading assignments on Scootpad.com each week. Students will be able to work on them over the weekend as well. There is also information on how to sign up to see your child’s progress on Scootpad.com. Students will soon be encouraged to practice 3 reading and math assignments within a week’s span.

Welcome!

Dear Parents,

My name is Charles Kim, and I will be your child’s teacher this year.  I am excited about the upcoming school year, and I look forward to getting to know all of your children!

I have a few things to talk about to start this school year.  First, I have attached a class schedule to this letter so that you will know the basic layout of our day. On the schedule you will see our specials listed.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on Tuesday so that they will be able to participate in PE.  It would also be helpful if you would send a water bottle with your child.  A clear disposable water bottle seems to work best.

After Labor Day, the 2^nd grade will start assigning homework and assessing behavior.  Each Monday, a homework schedule and behavior chart for the week will be sent home.  The materials for homework will not be provided until the day of the actual assignment.  I feel that it is important to do a little bit each day rather than try to do it all in one night.  Homework will consist of reading, spelling and math each night.  I feel that it is your responsibility as a parent to look over your child’s homework and have them correct visible mistakes.  In doing this, you are keeping them from reinforcing bad habits.  It also keeps you well informed of what we are doing in the classroom.  I ask that you initial the behavior portion of the homework sheet and their reading log each night.

Our snack time will be in the afternoon during our reading block. Please be sure to send a healthy snack that is not cookies or candy. I am always looking for healthy snack donations for students who do not bring a snack.

I will continue with the tradition of Tuesday folders which will be provided for your child.  Each Tuesday they will bring home a lot of important information for you to read along with our weekly class newsletter.  This newsletter will provide you with class information so please make sure to read over it each week.

Please feel free to e-mail me anytime as this is the best way to contact me.  I will always be available to you when it comes to the best interests of your child, and I believe that parent participation and communication are key components to student achievement and growth.
